Case study : Increasing the DAU for Whatsapp
Problem Statement : Propose new features & prepare a doc to present your idea to Mark Zuckerberg that will increase the DAU of WhatsApp.
Approach : Starting with the research and brainstorming sessions and figuring out the possible users, I narrowed down the user personas to the following target audience :
- Students
- Working Professionals
- Mid-Old age users
Solutions for the above user personas (Wireframes):
Keeping in mind all of the above pain points I have suggested some of the features which can collectively solve the issues for most of the users and will help in increase the active users.
- Built-in web browser : Opening a link within Whatsapp will not let the users switch out of the application and also reduce the chances of never let them coming back.
- Note maker : In many instances users have to take note of any important messages and might wanted to be remined afterwards about the same. A note maker will help users get notified and not to miss on important stuff.
- Calendar : A built in calendar within the application helps to add the important events on calendar and to get notified about the same before hand.
- Voice Assistant : A voice assistant saves the time and let users search, call or text the intended person instead of wasting time in searching for the desired chats.
- News Feed : This option will let user to get news feed if s/he wants. This will open as a new screen where all the top news can be seen.
Metrics to track the DAU according to features :
- Browser : No. of links opened per day / per month, Avg. time spent on browser / per user.
- Note Maker : No. of clicks made by user / per day
- Calendar : No. of clicks made by user / per day
- Voice Assistant : No. of clicks made by user / per day
- News Feed : No. of links opened per day / per month, Avg. time spent on browser / per user.
